What SETA is

SETA is a Shopify app that lets a shopper see a garment on themselves, live, using their own camera. The merchant installs it; the try-on runs inside the merchant's product page. SETA has no shopper accounts and asks shoppers for nothing.

Your camera, if you are a shopper

Your camera runs only while the try-on window is open, and the video is processed live. It is not recorded and not stored— not by SETA, and not on the merchant's store. Nothing you see is written to a file unless you ask for one.

You can keep a photo of your try-on: with the camera button while it runs, or the frame it ends on. The photo is made in your own browser and goes only where you send it — your photo library, a download, or an app you choose to share it with. It is never uploaded to SETA or to the merchant; SETA only counts how many photos are taken and kept, as described below. Each saved photo is labelled as AI-generated, visibly and in its file metadata, and carries nothing else about you or your device.

To generate the image, the live stream and a photograph of the garment are sent to our AI provider (see subprocessors below) for the duration of the session only.

The clothing you see on yourself is generated by artificial intelligence. It is an approximation, not a photograph, and it is not a reliable guide to how a garment will fit.

What is recorded about a try-on

Each try-on writes one row containing:

  • the store it happened on, and the product identifier
  • how long generation ran, and whether the session completed
  • whether the product was added to the cart afterwards
  • how many photos were taken during it, and how many were kept — through your phone's share sheet or as a download. Numbers only: never the photos, and not which app you chose
  • the time it started and ended
  • a pseudonymous visitor value, described next

The visitor value is a keyed hash of your network address combined with the store you are on. The key never leaves our server, so the stored value cannot be turned back into an address, and because the store is part of the hash the same person produces a different value on every merchant — it cannot be used to follow anyone between shops, including by us. Its only purpose is to stop one visitor exhausting a merchant's try-on allowance, which needs it for a day at most, so it is removed from the record within 48 hours of the try-on.

SETA does notstore your network address, your browser's user agent string, your name, your email address, or any account or payment information. It has no advertising or analytics trackers.

What is kept on your own device

Two values are written to your browser's local storage, and neither is sent anywhere:

  • whether you have already reached a store's try-on limit, and when that clears, so the button can show it without a network request
  • whether you have already been shown the full AI notice, so it is not repeated

Clearing your browser storage removes both. Neither is a cookie, and neither identifies you.

Adding to cart

To tell a merchant whether try-on leads to sales, SETA notes your cart's item count before and after you press the store's own Add to cart button, using the storefront's public cart endpoint on the merchant's own domain. Only the fact that the count rose is reported. The contents of your cart are never read or sent to SETA.

Merchant data

For a store with the app installed, SETA stores:

  • the shop domain, shop name and the owner email Shopify provides
  • the plan, the remaining try-on allowance, and the ledger of how it was spent
  • credit pack purchases and their status
  • a Shopify Admin API access token, encrypted at rest, used only to raise the charges the merchant approved and to reconcile what Shopify says they are subscribed to
  • if the merchant asked for product updates: the email address and name they entered for that purpose, and the date they agreed

The last of those is the only merchant detail SETA holds on the basis of consent, and it is kept apart from the rest on purpose. The owner email Shopify provides is used to reach a store about its own account — a failed charge, an incident, a change to the service — and is never added to a mailing list. Updates and offers go only to an address a merchant typed into the box in their admin and confirmed with a tick.

A merchant can stop those emails from the same place at any time, and the effect is immediate: the address leaves every list the moment they do. It stays in the record only so they are not made to retype it if they subscribe again, and we keep the dates consent was given and withdrawn as the evidence that the list is what we say it is.

Who else processes data

  • Real-Time AI Video Infrastructure — the cloud AI provider that generates the try-on stream. Receives the live video stream and the garment image in memory strictly for the length of the session.
  • Vercel — hosting for the application.
  • Supabase — the database in which the records above are held.
  • Shopify — identifies the merchant and handles every payment. SETA never sees a card.

Data may be processed outside the European Economic Area by these providers, under the transfer safeguards each of them operates.

How long it is kept

  • A try-on that never reached the camera — a tap that went nowhere — is deleted after seven days.
  • The pseudonymous visitor value is removed from every try-on record within 48 hours.
  • Completed try-on records and the credit ledger are kept while the merchant has the app installed, because they are the record of what the merchant was charged.
  • When a merchant uninstalls, Shopify asks us to erase their store 48 hours later, and everything belonging to it is deleted then.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may request access to your personal data, its correction or erasure, a copy of it, or that we restrict or stop processing it, and you may complain to your national data protection authority.

If you are a shopper, there is an honest answer we have to give: SETA holds nothing that identifies you. The visitor value described above cannot be reversed to an address and cannot be derived from a name, an email or an order — so we are unable to find "your" records, and we cannot delete what we cannot identify. That is a consequence of collecting as little as possible, not a refusal. Shopify's own data-request and erasure requests reach us and are answered on exactly this basis.

If you are a merchant, write to the address at the top of this page and we will action any of the above for your store.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page changes with it.
